How Driver Courses Can Save you Money
It’s common for auto insurance companies to provide a discount on auto insurance for customers to complete a certified training course. How much you pay in auto insurance premium is determined by a lot of factors, and one of those factors is the perceived risk a driver may bring. Driver courses teach drivers of all ages, including youthful drivers, how to be better, which may lower the risk of an accident. The more you learn, the more you can save on car insurance! At Alfa®, we offer the following discounts for completing driver courses.
Youth Defensive Driving/Safety Discount
If you meet the following qualifications and successfully complete your state’s course linked below, you may receive a discount on your auto policy. Contact your agent to have it applied. This discount cannot be given in conjunction with any other driver training discounts.
Qualifications:
- Unmarried drivers
- Ages 16 to 20 years old
- Clean driving record
- Completed a youth defensive driving/safety course

Youth Defensive Driving Course for Mississippi
Youth Safety Discount for Georgia
Defensive Driver Discount
You may receive a defensive driver discount on your auto policy if you meet the following qualifications and have successfully completed a defensive driving course or a qualified Motor Vehicle Accident Prevention Course. These courses are usually certified by your state. You may not receive this discount in conjunction with the driver training discount.
Qualifications:
- Aged 55 or older for Alabama and Mississippi residents (any age for Georgia residents)
- Clean driving record
- Completed a qualified defensive driver course
- Must re-qualify every three years
As a membership benefit of the Alabama Farmers Federation, Alabama residents can get a discounted rate for the Safe Driver Defensive Driving Course through SafeDriver.com.
Driver Training Discounts
If you meet the qualifications below and have successfully completed a qualified driver education course, you may receive a driver training discount on your auto policy. Contact your agent for questions. This discount cannot be given in addition to the Youth Defensive Driving Discount. Some exclusions may apply.
Qualifications:
- Ages 16 to 20 (except married females)
- Completed an acceptable driver education course
Youth Honor Student
While this discount is not a driver course, it is still worth mentioning. If you meet the qualifications below, let your agent know and you may receive a discount on your auto policy. Scholastic records must be provided.
Qualifications:
-Full-time student (12 hours or more)
- Unmarried
- Ages 16 to 24 years old
- 3.0 GPA or higher
